The powerplant is located near Merina Dakhar, a settlement around 145 km north east of the capital, Dakar, which benefits from high levels of sunshine. Once constructed, the company will sell its energy to the national energy company Sénélec.
Ten Merina Ndakhar will be one of the largest solar power plants in West Africa. It will cover the needs of 226,500 inhabitants and will diversify the country's energy mix.
Ten Merina Ndakhar SA will also be in charge of the construction of a 3-km transmission line on behalf of the client Senelec. Tenergie, the initial developer of the project, signed a 25-year PPA with SENELEC, the Senegalese electricity utility at the end of December 2013. Meridiam partnered with Eiffage, joining the project as majority shareholder, so as to finalize the development phase and raise the financing required for financial close.

Market structuring effects
Electricity production in Senegal does not fully meet demand. Ten Merina will add 25.9 MW to the country's installed power capacity, producing an additional 50 GWh/year of electricity. All at a tariff that is lower than all the energy sources currently available in the country. -
Access to basic services & goods
Basic services and goods
Ten Merina will make up part of the energy deficit, notably meeting Senegal's electricity needs, which will limit the frequency of load shedding. It will also provide additional energy to support the development of the industrial sector. -
Fight against climate change
Senegal wants to diversify its energy mix, with priority given to renewable energies (target of 20% by 2017). The Ten Merina project represents an installed capacity of 29.5 MW (or 4.5% of the country's generating capacity as at 31/12/2015), for an energy output of 50 GWh/year.
