AviNiger is a greenfield company aiming at setting-up a state of the art egg chicken farm in Niger with well-known technologies. The egg industry in Niger has currently low capacity and only a few small professional farms. As a consequence a lot of eggs are imported, in general low quality and high price. AVINIGER will start with 36.000 chickens, expanding to 144.000 divided over four hen houses. There will be one building for small chickens. The final goal of the company is to produce 37 million eggs per year after 4 to 5 years. The project will be developed on a greenfield site measuring 5.5ha owned by the company at about 7km from Niamey city in an agricultural area.

AviNiger

The project

The main objective of the programme is to construct a separate hen house with chicken cages meeting the newest EU standards. The project will be pioneering to the local market, since the cages will be the first of its kind in the region, and could serve as an example and test cast for similar companies.

Development impacts

  • Local economic growth

The company will have around 40 local employees and will help diminish (low quality) imports of eggs from Ivory Coast, Ghana & Nigeria.

  • Private sector consolidation/innovation

Avi Niger will attract experienced personnel and will create a distribution channel for quality eggs.

  • Food security & rural development

By year 4-5, the local production capacity will be at 37 million eggs per year.

My life was a nightmare

21-01-2019

The story of Myriama is a typical one, where people - through no fault of their own - are experiencing hardship but are trying their hardest to overcome it. These people often only need a little push in the right direction - like the availability of affordable eggs to make omelets from. And that’s the kind of impact BIO is looking for.
