The project is to set-up a state of the art chicken farm in Niger with well-known technologies. The egg market in Niger has currently a low capacity and only a few professional farms are active. As a consequence, a lot of eggs are imported from neighbouring countries as Nigeria, Ghana and Ivory Coast, often at low quality and high price. The population of Niger is one of the fast growing in Africa. Therefore, in the short and long term it makes sense to set-up a professional farm in Niger.

AviNiger

The full capacity of the project is 144.000 chicken which will be deployed in 4 different buildings each containing 36.000 chicken. + one building for one day chicken up to four months with a starting capacity of 40.000.

Development impacts

  • Local economic growth

The company will have around 40 local employees and will help diminish (low quality) imports of eggs from Ivory Coast, Ghana & Nigeria.

  • Private sector consolidation/innovation

Avi Niger will attract experienced personnel and will create a distribution channel for quality eggs.

  • Food security & rural development

By year 4-5, the local production capacity will be at 37 million eggs per year.

The story of Myriama is a typical one, where people - through no fault of their own - are experiencing hardship but are trying their hardest to overcome it. These people often only need a little push in the right direction - like the availability of affordable eggs to make omelets from. And that’s the kind of impact BIO is looking for.
