ACEP Burkina Faso (“ABF”) is a leading microfinance institution that started its activities in September 2012 with a capital equivalent of EUR 1.2 mln. The project is promoted by ACEP International, a network of MFIs operating across Africa and specializing in the provision of financial services for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (“MSMEs”). In Burkina Faso, ABF is major player in the microfinance sector, with a branch network covering the country’s five major cities. It plays a key role in fostering entrepreneurship and economic growth by offering tailored financing solutions to local businesses. BIO's loan will be used to further expand the institution’s loan portfolio and solidify its presence in the market.

Development impacts

  • Local economic growth

The project supports local economic growth in Burkina Faso by expanding access to finance for micro and small enterprises, enabling urban and peri-urban businesses to grow and create jobs in a fragile context. It also strengthens the local financial ecosystem by mobilizing savings from more than 52,000 clients and supporting entrepreneurship through technical assistance, with the objective of training 500 entrepreneurs per year by 2027

  • Private sector consolidation/innovation

The project strengthens innovation in Burkina Faso’s microfinance sector by supporting the 2nd most digitalized MSME institution in the country. Through enhanced digital services and faster loan processing, it improves access, efficiency, and customer experience. By prioritizing digital channels and tailored financial products, the institution sets new standards for customer-centric service, encouraging the market to better respond to the needs of microentrepreneurs and individuals.

  • Financial inclusion

The institution enhances financial inclusion in Burkina Faso by expanding access to basic financial and non-financial services for urban and peri-urban microentrepreneurs and very small businesses that are typically underserved by the traditional banking system. By reaching a growing number of clients and offering appropriately sized loans, the institution helps integrate more entrepreneurs into the formal financial system and supports inclusive economic participation.
