AfricInvest SME Fund is a private equity fund that will support fast-growing SMEs in North and sub-Saharan Africa. The fund has a target size in the range of USD 150-180 M and will invest equity tickets of EUR 4-15 M to acquire influential minority and opportunistically majority positions in approximately 15 small-sized companies with a focus on growth investments, but also buy-outs across a variety of sectors.

The fund aims to achieve adequate financial return, while leveraging AfricInvest’s internal capabilities to deliver on its ambitious social and environmental development impact targets.

African SMEs, which are crucial pillars of the continent's economy, face significant structural obstacles, including a lack of access to specialised skills in product and service quality that meet international standards and ESG requirements, and limited knowledge about the transition to low-carbon business models. TAF fits in strategically by offering solutions to overcome these challenges.

For BIO, it is important to be able to support Africinvest in developing this TAF instrument, as this fund manager is a privileged partner of BIO and a leading player in the African market.

  • Strengthening their economic and operational performance (financial management, risk management, operations and production, new product development, etc.).
  • Strengthening their environmental and social performance, their developmental impact, and their governance.
  • Strengthening gender diversity and inclusion at all levels of their activities.
