The Essel-Clean Solu hydropower project is a typical run-of-river hydropower project and is one of the most efficient hydropower projects in Nepal. The project is situated in steep hilly terrain at a narrow river gorge and is a high-head run-of-riverscheme which uses the difference in elevations from diverting water from the Solu River at 1765m and discharging it at 1273m back into the river.

With this USD 20 million investment, BIO will help to reduce Nepal’s dependence on polluting emergency diesel generators and contribute to the availability and reliability of power supply, which is crucial for sustainable economic development.

When operational the project will provide electricity to an estimated 3 million people, helping to alleviate the current power shortages in the country.
Fight against climate change
The project is expected to lead to substantial savings of CO2 emissions. More than 352,000 ton CO2 emissions will be avoided.
