  • Equity € 8,338,200.00 (2018)

The Fund is focused on the education sector of emerging South and South East Asia and is a follow-on to Kaizen Private Equity I (Fund I) with a similar sectoral approach. The Fund is a 10-year, closed-end fund with a USD 125 m target size. The first closing was on 10.03.2017, followed by a second closing in December 2017.

The Fund invests in education, defined as core education (e.g. K-12 schooling, colleges), parallel education (e.g. preschool, test preparation) and education enabling services (e.g. technologies, books, Edtech, finance, student housing etc.).

Kaizen believes that the private sector plays a major role in improving the poor quality of education, driven by limited government funding and large populations. Part of the Fund’s strategy is to invest in the education-technology space, to break barriers and bring education to isolated areas and excluded people.

Technical assistance

The Technical Assistance Facility (TAF) aims to co-finance a variety of studies (marketing, business strategies, …). The TAF can also be used to develop capacities and transfer know-how, technologies, skills, and experiences to Kaizen Private Equity II portfolio companies.

The expected impact of the TA facility is to support Kaizen Private Equity II portfolio companies to improve their sustainability, performance & competitiveness with a specific focus on the education sector.

Development impacts

  • Access to basic services & goods

Education is considered a basic service and is part of a country's infrastructure.

  • Local economic growth

This TAF will provide grant support to allow specific TA to support the investees in the education sector to grow their activities and become better performing and increase their ability to generate more revenues.
