Super Silica
Part of a family-owned business created in 1952, SSBL was founded in 2014 and is the first ISO certified green sodium silicate producer in the country. The company collects rice husk ash, a biomass waste, from rice mills and converts it into sodium silicate. SSBL operates mainly on the local market, serving over 60 companies in 8 different sectors, and has 25% market share. If the investment project is approved, BIO would support SSBL's expansion in the manufacturing of their product green precipitated silica (“GPS”), by financing its 20 tons GPS production capacity (machinery and equipment).
Technical Assistance
The objective of the TA project is to support the costs of performing an Environmental & Social (E&S) due diligence (ESDD) of SSBL's existing plant and expansion project (proposed to be co-financed by BIO's investment), by assessing compliance of SSBL's current operations against EDFI E&S standards.
The TA project will include, based on the ESDD findings, providing recommendations to avoid, minimise, mitigate or offset any E&S risks and negative impacts identified, and suggestions for BIO's value and positive E&S impact generation via an ESAP.
The TA is implemented in the context of BIO's ongoing due diligence and in parallel to an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) required by national law and implemented by a local consultant.
