Pacifico is owned by nearly 35,000 members and is the leader cooperative in Peru and the largest in terms of assets, deposits, equity and net income. Its core business is SME lending, with some diversification on microfinance, consume and housing segments.

BIO´s financing will enable Cooperative Pacifico to grow its loan portfolio and increase its capacity to further contribute to the development of the local market by offering financial services to the micro, small and medium entrepreneurs in Peru. The SME segment has a strong impact in the development of the local economy as it is source of employment of 60% of the total population.

In addition BIO´s funds will be also dedicated to impulse the development of a recently launched business line committed to provide financing to other rural cooperatives, acting as a second floor institution. Through this new business line, Pacifico intends to diversify its loan portfolio and extend its financial services also to rural and productive cooperatives.

Local economic growth
The primary goal of this project is to provide access to credit to micro entrepreneurs and SMEs. In addition BIO ´funds will be used to fund rural cooperatives and its clients, as Pacifico will be acting as a second floor bank.
Financial inclusion
Pacifico offers an alternative to traditional banking services where the clients can have a more personal approach and the possibility to count with less standardized products. Pacifico targets SMEs and micro entrepreneurs mainly in urban areas, it also provides credit to rural cooperatives, and therefore it indirectly supports the access to credit for rural or agricultural micro entrepreneurs.
Promotion of ESG best practices
Pacifico has taken the leadership in the cooperative sector being the first cooperative engaging on good social and environmental practices (adopting CPPs and E&S management system). In addition a potential TA could be provided to strengthen the Corporate Governance of Pacifico and the cooperative sector.
