Your role

The Investment Officer’s main missions are:

• To identify and evaluate investments in private equity funds that comply with BIO’s strategy and role.
• To supervise closely a portfolio of funds.
• To provide support for direct equity transactions as well as supervise closely a number of BIO’s direct equity investments.

Responsibilities & tasks:
PE Funds
• To identify and evaluate investments in private equity funds that comply with BIO’s strategy and role in terms of financial return, development impact as well as social and environmental standards;
• Conduct on-site evaluation missions;
• Prepare detailed analysis reports and present investment recommendations to management and BIO Investment Committee;
• Organize the preparation of legal documents, in coordination with internal and external resources;
• Supervise a portfolio of private equity funds in close collaboration with the Equity Analysts:
o Follow the main indicators of the funds: team cohesion, investment rhythm, quality of the portfolio, structuring of the underlying deals, compliance with E&S standards, value added of the manager, exit capability
o Represent BIO in the main governance bodies of the funds: board and advisory committees
o Ensure compliance of the fund with legal agreements and negotiate adaptations to the agreements (waiver, amendments) to the best interest of BIO. Provide adequate recommendations to BIO for all shareholders’ decisions
o Identify issues and propose adequate solutions
o Report on regular basis on investment projects supervised
o Identify and promote adequate opportunities of co-investments in equity or debt for BIO
Direct Equity
• As part of a deal team: evaluate equity investment projects, help structuring and negotiating transactions, organize the preparation of legal documents (in coordination with internal and external resources);
• Supervise a few direct equity investments in close collaboration with the Equity Analysts:
o Closely monitor the investments in terms of performance, governance etc.
o Identify issues and propose adequate solutions
o Provide adequate recommendations to BIO for all shareholders’ decisions, represent BIO as a shareholder, participate in the governance and/or liaise with external Board Members appointed by BIO
o Report on a regular basis.

Profile

• High level education in Business Administration, Applied Economics or Finance
• Pro-active, initiative taker, entrepreneurial spirit. Result-oriented
• Team player
• Excellent networking, negotiating and communication skills (oral and written)
• Direct private equity skills / Corporate finance skills / Analytical skills
• Relevant work experience: at least 5 years of experience in private equity, corporate finance or corporate banking. Relevant experience in direct private equity projects
• Interest for development subjects and developing countries
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Willingness to travel: +/- 25% of time
• Language skills: excellent English and French and/or Dutch. Spanish is an asset.
