The reputation and performance of Banco de Crédito Centroamericano, BANCENTRO, a member of the LAFISE Group, has been reaffirmed once again, obtaining three important long-term subordinated loans totaling $15 million dollars to support the main economic and productive sectors of Nicaragua. These agreements are even more valuable and significant now that the global markets have been constrained due to the financial crisis affecting economies worldwide.
The agreements were signed on October 15th, 2008, between Mr. Roberto Zamora Llanes, President of Bancentro and Mr. Hugo Bosmans, CEO, representing the Belgian InvestmentCompany for Developing Countries (BIO), Mr Jukka Ahmala, Director Legal Affairs, representing the Finnish Fund for Industrial Cooperation Ltd. (FINNFUND) and Mr. Claude Barras, Managing Director, representing the Swiss Investment Fund for Emerging Markets (SIFEM).
The agreements signed with these important European Financial institutions (BIO, FINNFUND, SIFEM), are first in its class. These organizations had never granted simultaneously a similar facility to a Nicaraguan bank in the past; the agreements with BANCENTRO constitute a subordinated debt with a ten-year term and a five-year grace period at highly competitive interest rates.
Obtaining this funding from such prestigious European organizations shows the confidence and trust that LAFISE Group has earned internationally. LAFISE´s strong performance and the transparent management of its resources have also made it possible to continue promoting growth and stability among different economic sectors in Central America.
The Belgian InvestmentCompany for Developing Countries (BIO) is a development finance institution aiming at strengthening the private sector in developing countries. The Finnish Fund provides long-term risk capital for private projects (Finnfund), and the Swiss Fund (SIFEM), is a specialized entity that invests in small and medium sized companies in emerging developing countries.
BANCENTRO is a leading banking institution in Nicaragua with over 65 branches and offices serving some 200,000 commercial, corporate, consumer, and investment customers throughout the country with a broad range of financial and insurance products. BANCENTRO is a member of the Lafise Group which is one of the most prominent regional financial institutions in Central America and the Caribbean with over 100 offices in more than ten countries and over $1.5 billion in assets serving some 300,000 customers.
