BANCENTRO was established in 1991 and primarily offered financial intermediation, banking services and the development of the agricultural and industrial production and commerce through lending activities. The Bank has been traditionally known as a corporate bank. However, in April 2007 the Bank started to develop its SME program, offering a range of products such as working capital loans, fixed asset loans, and mortgage loans (housing improvement). The minimum loan amount is USD 1,000 and the maximum USD 10,000.

BIO’s intervention aims to contribute to the expansion and the strengthening of financial services to small and microenterprises in Nicaragua. The purpose is to create an alternative for competitive financial services for the small and microenterprise sector through the penetration of a successful commercial bank into the SME market. In addition, BIO’s investment aims at strengthening the capital base of the Bank.
