Acceso Crediticio (ACR) is a Peruvian EDPYME (“Entidad de Desarrollo de la Pequena y Mediana Empresa”) specialised in providing loans to base-of-the-pyramid entrepreneurs working in the transportation industry, such as taxi drivers and motorcycle messengers. ACR enables them to finance the acquisition of their vehicles and earn a living.
ACR is a niche player and the leading finance institution on financing LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) and NG (natural gas) powered vehicles, boosting the use of clean energy. ACR helps to reduce CO2 emissions, as the use of gas significantly reduces fuel-generated pollution.
ACR’s business model is unique and mainly targets informal micro entrepreneurs/taxi drivers working in the poorest urban areas of Lima. ACR serves a market segment neglected by the traditional financial institutions that consider this niche risky and informal, guaranteeing ACR a key role in providing financial access.

  • Development impacts :

    • 1 — Local economic growth: The primary goal of this project is to provide access to credit to MSMEs working in the transportation sector. As 50% of ACR´s clients are unbanked, the company invests heavily in providing financial education to its customers.
    • 2 — Private sector consolidation/innovation: Products and services offered by ACR are unique and tailored to the needs of its customers, such as repair and dealership workshops; the company foresees the development of new products which are not offered by other institutions.
    • 3 — Financial inclusion: The traditional banking system doesn’t cater to clients whose only source of income is taxi revenues.
