Sociedad Financiera VisionFund Ecuador (“VFE”) is a Tier 2 microfinance institution, operating in the northern and central region of Ecuador. The MFI focuses on the very low end of the microenterprises and uses both individual, as solidarity group and village banking loans. About 68% of its clients are women from rural and peri-urban areas who live in (extreme) poverty.

VFE was founded by World Vision International, a well-known global NGO dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. In 1995 , the NGO started operating microfinance institutions around the world with the aim of empowering families to create income and jobs and thereby ensuring a brighter future for their children. Financial services go hand in hand with training and workshops to support clients to successfully grow their business.

VFE in Ecuador has over 64,000 active borrowers with an average loan size amounting to about USD 982. VFE offers non-financial services, including business trainings and counselling, as well as social workshops related to health, environment, and protection of children’s rights. The cost of these non-financial services is included within the loan charged interest rates.
