Montecristi Solar FV SAS is an SPV that develops, constructs and operates a 58MWp Photovoltaic solar plant in Monte Cristi in the Dominican Republic. The Project will be fully owned by a Joint Venture between F&S Solar Concept (F&S) and Blue Elephant Energy (BEE). The project is ready to be built.

Montecristi will be the largest PV project to date in the Caribbean and the second sizeable PV project in the Dominican Republic (the first one being MontePlata phase 1 for 33MWp and connected to grid in August 2016).

Renewable energy is a key component of the country’s long term energy policy, which was implemented by the current government. Besides the decrease of the dependency on imported fuels, the expansion of renewable energy production would reduce the volatility in energy prices.

Land is approximately 100ha. The land is essentially scrub land. It has been confirmed (as a condition for obtaining the concession) that the land could not be used for agricultural (too dry) or tourism activities.

  • Development impacts :

    • 1 — The project will add generation capacity to the system and contribute to the reliability and sustainability of the energy supply in the Dominican Republic, which is plagued by frequent power interruptions that harm the economy. The increase of the reliability of supply of energy also ensure decreasing dependence on imported fuel. Second solar project in Dominican Republic.
    • 2 — The PV Solar plant will provide 92.000MWh/year of renewable energy and save up 46.200 tCO2eq/year.
