Banh Vang

Banh Vang has set up a bakery in the Ho Chi Minh City area to produce “baguettes” in compliance with international standards on food safety (HACCP/ISO 22000). Banh Vang will also run a training program for small bakers.

Baguette is a major staple food in Vietnam and over the last years, consumers have grown more concerned about food safety and convenience and tend to shop more at stores and supermarkets instead of on informal markets. Banh Vang is responding to a growing demand for healthy bread.

Development impact:

  • Private sector consolidation/innovation: Know how & technology transfer (equipment is a first in the country with regard to international quality standards; training of staff and small bakers); Market structuring effects (as a specialist player, BANH offers a good and healthy product at a low cost price ; it plays a role in professionalization and traceability in the food production value chain)
  • Food security and rural development: BANH does not use potassium bromate in its products; The spelt initiative should create opportunities for rural farmers and generate employment; Increased availability of food on local markets
