Rajasthan Sun Technique Energy Private Ltd, is constructing a 100MW Concentrated Solar Power plant in the State of Rajasthan in India. The project location is ideal for solar power due to its extended periods of cloudless days and thanks to a superior level of direct sun radiation. This project has been awarded under Phase I (650MW) of the National Solar Mission, an initiative of the Government of India and State Governments to promote ecologically sustainable growth while addressing India’s energy security challenges.

BIO is investing together with the Dutch development bank, FMO.  The Development Financial Institutions are making this project happen, given the limited availability of long-term USD financing in India. BIO’s funds will be used for a part of the project cost. The project site provides access to road network, to water for the steam cycle and cooling and to a transmission line for power evacuation. The project is expected to start operations in the fourth quarter of 2013.

With its participation, BIO supports the efforts of the Government of India to promote clean energy, to combat climate change and to increase the share of renewable energy in power generation, which is currently dominated by polluting coal fired power stations.

Our Dutch partner, FMO, produced a video on the solar energy project, you can see it here.
